it happens predictably each year: summer rolls around and all i can think of is palm springs. for some reason when the temperature hits a certain decibel, my mind is consumed with images of mid-century modern, lush desert plant life and popsicles by the pool (on beautifully designed furniture bien sûr). complete with a hankering for afternoons spent hunting for vintage treasures, there's something about summer that makes me want to shake up the routine and hit the road to find design inspiration in the desert. while palm springs has my heart, i've been hearing great things about ojai, as well as borrego springs--has anyone been? recommendations would be much appreciated.
i think what i really love about palm springs is a sense of casualness--a mixture of elements thrown together that just work. the vibrant color palettes, mixed with the subtlety of the surrounding earth. shorts and sandals. it's like being outdoors without being too outdoors. poolside lounging (spiked lemonade anyone?). while i could muse about this for ages, it might be better suited for me to just get in the car and drive. in the meantime, here's some of my favorite desert design inspiration.
